Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how ZeroNote (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your data both on our website zeronote.de and within the ZeroNote browser extension.
2. Data Collected by the Website
When you visit zeronote.de, we collect only the data that is technically necessary to provide and secure the website:
- Technical logs:
- Security and attack prevention:
This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and time of access.
In the event of brute-force attempts or other malicious activities (such as repeated failed login attempts, abuse of public endpoints, or automated attacks), we may temporarily log additional data for security purposes. This may include IP addresses, device fingerprints, and details about the attempted attack. These logs are kept strictly for defense and troubleshooting and are never used for profiling or marketing.
We do not use third-party analytics or trackers on our website. No personal data is ever sold, transferred, or used for advertising purposes.
3. Data Collected by the Extension
ZeroNote extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All encryption and decryption takes place entirely in your browser, on your device (“zero knowledge”). No unencrypted content, passwords, or keys are ever transmitted to our servers or any third parties.
- No tracking:
- No analytics:
- No background data transfer:
The extension does not track your activity or usage in any way.
We do not use any analytics tools or services in the extension.
The extension does not send any background requests except for the technical API calls required to create and retrieve your notes (which are encrypted and anonymous).
4. Email and Personal Information
If you use the optional “Send by email” feature on our website, your email address is used solely for sending the note link to the provided recipient. We do not store these addresses after the mail is sent. We do not use email addresses for any marketing, analytics, or third-party sharing.
5. Data Retention
- Security logs (e.g., IP addresses after detected attacks) are kept only as long as necessary for defense and troubleshooting and are deleted regularly.
- Notes: All notes are encrypted client-side and deleted from our database automatically according to their expiry time or after the specified number of views.
6. Data Disclosure
We never sell, rent, or share your data with third parties except:
- To comply with a valid legal process (e.g., law enforcement request), or
- If necessary to protect the security and integrity of our services.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to request information about the personal data (if any) we hold about you, to request correction or deletion, or to object to its use. Because ZeroNote is zero knowledge, in most cases we do not have access to or control over your note contents.
8. Contact
